Speech Therapy

• The Madison Center offers quality pediatric evaluation and treatment to children with a variety of speech-language disorders. Some of them include the following, but are not limited to: verbal apraxia, articulation, phonological, receptive/expressive language delay, stuttering, social cognition and high level processing. We maximize opportunities to facilitate natural speech and language using developmentally appropriate toys and equipment. We encourage peer interaction to enhance age-appropriate language and social skills. Speech is not only what a child says, but how they play and gesture, what language they understand and what information the can convey.

Specialty Training: Pediatrics, Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cuing approach to Apraxia, Dr. Ron Gillam-Information Processing in Children with Specific Language Impairment, Michelle Garcia Winner-Social Thinking Curriculum

Special interests in: Childhood Apraxia of Speech, American Sign Language, Augmentative Communication and parent advocacy

Outside TMC: spending time with family and friends, walking her dog, Brick, playing softball, golfing, and going to Twins games.

Specialty Training: Social Thinking™ Providers Conference Presenter, Social Thinking™ Clinical Training 1A, Michelle Garcia Winners Social Thinking Conference, Integrated Approach to Wellness Yoga Clam certification, Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cuing approach to Apraxia, Self-Regulation in Children, Dr. Orton Gillingham-Oral narrative Skills, ACE Certified Group Fitness Instructor, CPR.

Special interests in: social cognition for kids and teens, high level processing skills, wellness and fitness for kids with disabilities and anxiety

Outside TMC: spending time with family and friends, espcially on the lake, leading group fitness classes at the gym she and her husband own together, reading, playing volleyball, and anything outdoors

Melissa Talmo

Education: BA in Speech Language and Hearing Sciences from University of Colorado - Boulder, MA in Speech Language Pathology from University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

Specialty Training: Trained in Response to Intervention, Crisis Prevention Institute, preschool autism programs and interventions, elementary team approaches to service, and IEP (Individualized Education Plan) writing

Special interests in: Pediatric services including children with language disorders, cleft palate, and autism. Integrated therapy approaches focused on functional language and social language skills.

Outside TMC: spending time with her husband and two daughters especially when outdoors, cooking, traveling, downhill skiing, golfing, or spending countless hours on the water.
